Equipment required for Paediatrics Audiology

The hearing testing equipment for children  ( Paediatrics Audiology)
The minimum equipment required by each centre, related  to the priority:
a.     Otoscope for examining the ear canal and ear drum
b.     Sound Level Meter for measuring sound stimuli
c.   Play Audiometry in sound proof booth,  tools ( blocks in box, marbles in jar)
d.   Audiometer (2 channel diagnostic audiometer able to drive headphones, bone conductor,
      insert earphone, external speakers)
e.     Behavioural Observation Audiometry (BOA) with a variety of noise making toys
      (including rattles, xylophones, maracas, bells)
f.  Visual Reinforcement audiometry (VRA), moveable toys, 2 loud speakers in sound proof
     booth
g.  Tympanometer ( often not accurate for infants less than 7 months ),  able to measure
acoustic reflexes.  Sensitivity Prediction with accoustic Reflexes (SPAR)
h.  Speech test, open / closed set. Chidren younger than 4½ years old may not do well
i.  Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs) Machine, it is not hearing test.
Should never substitute for behavioural tests.

Others :
Electrophysiological Tests, test of  cochlear/neural integrity
a.        Evoked Response Audiometry (ERA)
b.       Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR),
c.       Steady State Evoked Potential (SSEP)
